CLOSING THE INTERVIEW

  1. When you sense the interview is coming to a close, try to summarize a few of your key credentials and stress your interests in working for the company.
  2. If you are interested in the position, ask for it. Ask for the next interview, if the situation demands. If you are offered the position on the spot, and want it, accept right then. If you want some time to think it over, be courteous and tactful in asking for that time. Set a definate date when you will provide an answer.
  3. DON'T be discouraged if no definate offer is made or specific salary discussed. The interviewer will probably want to communicate with his or her office first, or interview more applicants, before making the decision.
  4. If you get the impression that the interview is not going well and that you have already been rejected, don't let your discouragement show. Once in a while an interviewer who is genuinely interested in your possibilities may seem to discourage you in order to test your reaction.
  5. Thank the interviewer for his time and consideration of you. If you have answered the two questions upper-most in his or her mind:
    1. Why are you interested in this company?
    2. What can you offer?
You have now done all that you can.
